Winter months brings new hazards and injury risks

It seems that winter sure hit us quick this year. One day we are walking about in t-shirts and shorts and enjoying weather in the 70's, and hours later we are watching a piercing wind whip around snow flurries throughout northern New Jersey. As winter settles in to our area, we will again be reminded of new hazards that come with the cold winter weather.

Slip and fall accidents are not uncommon, especially in inclement weather. Even a casual walk through your neighborhood or drive into town could lead to an encounter with ice on the streets or sidewalk, which could lead to a painful fall or crash and potentially serious injuries.

Brain and spinal injuries are not uncommon for slip and fall accidents, and could lead to catastrophic long-term or life-long injuries. Such injuries may also leave New Jersey residents incapable of working and earning an income. For injury victims who cannot work, the Social Security Administration has two programs, Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income, that may be able to help.

Although SSD benefits for injuries are not expected to fully cover a person's medical expenses or rehabilitation costs, it can be helpful in helping substitute for lost wages during the recovery process. Applying for benefits and proving the extent of the disability is not always easy, especially for someone who is already debilitated due to the injury. At our law firm we help New Jersey residents who are applying for Social Security Disability Benefits for Injuries.
