Social Security Administration introduces new chief

Although it still remains uncertain whether the Social Security Administration will be altered any way with the new presidential administration, there is a new boss in charge. On Jan. 23, the administration welcomed Acting Commissioner Nancy Berryhill. The administration introduced the new commissioner in a recent blog post on its website, Social Security Matters.

The article talks about the depth and importance of Social Security for Americans, including statistics to show its massive $12 billion dollar annual budget and information regarding their staff, which includes nearly 64 thousand employees as well as approximately 16 thousand state employees who also work with the administration making disability determinations. The Social Security Administration issues over $960 billion dollars to almost 66 million Americans each year.

Although the depth and importance of the administration cannot be understated, it is no secret that they are still suffering from delays due to understaffing and a backlog of applications.

This should come as a vivid reminder that if you believe you qualify for Social Security Disability benefits such as Social Security Disability Insurance, or SSDI, or Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, the longer you wait to apply, the longer you will have to wait to see if you have been approved and to ultimately receive benefits once approved.

The application process is not always easy to complete, and is often compounded while a victim is already fighting from an illness, serious injury or medical condition. During such troubling times, it may be helpful to reach out to a firm familiar with the Social Security Administration's procedures to help you along the way and maximize the chance of getting your application approved.
